Mini Butterfly Knife Trainers for Anytime and Anyplace
What is FidgetFly?
FidgetFly was a small business I started near the end of my Junior year of high school which offered 3D printed, mini butterfly knife trainers, ideal for fidgeting in any circumstance. This product filled a gap in the market since all trainers previously on the market were large and/or visually resemblant of a real knife (see picture to the left). My product aimed to be almost unrecognizable as something related to butterfly knives to typical bystanders while maintaining the ability for advanced hobbyists to have a fun and unique experince.
How did it Happen?
As pictured above, I printed, finished, assembled, and shipped all my products from my bedroom. It was eye-opening to see how much bandwidth it takes to properly run such a small operation when you are responsible for everything from marketing to paying taxes and everything inbetween.
FidgetFly also went through 3 product iterations, each with great improvements, but also tons of work to prepare a product launch. Though each one required more work and preparation than the last, each one went more smoothly and I could see my skills become more refined and professional.
Additionally, since the butterfly knife community is quite niche, all my marketing had to be digital in order to reach an audience of practical size. This meant lots of learning about Instagram posts and short form content alongside website management. Below I have attached some marketing materials from my Instagram page, which is still active (@FidgetFlyTX).
