What is FidgetFly?
Product
3D printed (PETG), mini butterfly knife trainers, ideal for fidgeting in any circumstance.
Niche
All trainers previously on the market were large and/or visually resemblant of a real knife, so my product aimed to be almost unrecognizable as something related to butterfly knives while maintaining the ability for advanced hobbyists to have a fun experience.
When?
R&D began in April 2023 and I launched in early June the same year.
How did it Happen?
I independently printed, finished, assembled, and shipped all the products from my bedroom in Houston, Texas.
Iteration
I brought FidgetFly through 3 product iterations, each landmarking a newfound or refined skill. Of these the third iteration was my favorite — it refined the visual design, simplified manufacturing, and physically strengthened the product.
Marketing
Since the butterfly knife community is quite niche, I ran all of my marketing through social media platforms like Instagram. I marketed and sold over 50 products in my first summer, ultimately breaking even on the venture after a few short months.
